You haven’t heard of Raury by now you’re living under a rock with no internet. Raury seems to be an amalgam of many different characters we’ve seen. His influences definitely show and it may have to do with his youth. This can be good and bad depending on the type of listener you are but there is something very endearing about it. The project is extremely solid and has an originally flare about it (I mean you have to beat a video game in order to download it), not in the since of this is like nothing I have ever heard but more like nothing I’ve heard from a kid like him. And by that I mean a young black kid. I know that may sound harsh but it’s the truth of what I hear. Many people in the scene haven’t heard anything like this but many people in the scene don’t listen to alternative music very much at all. It’s kind of refreshing to see how receptive they are to this style of music (even if you have to put a money train behind it to get them to listen). As I stated before this project is incredibly solid and Raury is here to stay. Smooth rifts on this very acoustic project has dazed out a very niche lane for him as a young black male and Columbia is not going to waste that. I would not at all be surprise to see him performing and of these songs at the Grammy’s next year. I wonder what his mom has to say about that. @Raury
